CSS frames

Information

Looking around the web I have found that one of the most requested uses for CSS is to emulate frames with a fixed menu system and scrolling text area. But so far I have found no satisfactory cross browser method of doing this.

However, whilst I was playing around with using different background images in html and body, I stumbled across this.

This uses just html and body css with a menu div.
The menu div is placed over the html area of the page and stays fixed, whereas the body area scrolls.

Works in IE6, Mozilla and Firefox, but Opera 7.23 fails to display the menu although it knows it is there as the cursor changes as you hover over the invisible links.

A more conventional way that works in Opera and NN7 (after a fashion) and degrades well in IE5.5 and 5.01 can be found here.
